LESSON 20: Introducing Mutton 'M'
INTRODUCTION: (Hold up the Mutton 'M' card. Read the following story.)
Mutton 'M'
Mutton 'M' is a woolly lamb. She likes to leap and play on the mountains. She sometimes gets lost among the cliffs, so her shepherd, Boy 'B' keeps
his eye on her. She says /m/, as in mutton.
LETTER FORMATION: (Have student practice forming the letter 'm' while saying following poem: 1. In the air with full arm movement. 2. Trace 12" letter on blackboard. 3. On workbook page 35.)
Mutton 'M' likes the flower tops,
A short line down and she's off with two hops.
SONG: Let's sing along with the Alphabet Island Song. (On audio CD.)
AUDIO DISCRIMINATION: Alphabetize the cards you have studied on the Alphabet Island Cards board. Get out the Mutton 'M' card. As I read each word, hold up the card showing the letter that the word begins with.

WORKBOOK: p. 35. Mutton 'M'. Trace the 'm' ten times on the character, then over the dotted letter on the guidelines. Say the poem to help you form it correctly and say the sound it makes. Then you may color the picture.
p. 36. What starts with 'M'? Listen for the words that start with the sound
/m/ "mutton". Write a large enough 'm' over the picture to fill the box.
1. match, office, money, nest, mushroom
2. ostrich, monkey, newspaper, mouse, music
3. moose, otter, man, nine, mole
Now at the bottom of the page color all the spaces with the upper and lower case of the new letter to see what picture it will be.
